Why do we test our products 200,000 times?
With a maximum flow rate and minimal noise, Geberit flushing and drainage systems push the limits of what is technically feasible. They also carry out their tasks with certified reliability – a whole life long.
The company founder, Caspar Melchior Albert Gebert, built the first cistern in 1905. Back then, they were made of wood and lead. Today, no other company knows as much about flow engineering in sanitary applications as Geberit. Our products and system solutions thus have to meet the strictest requirements. In addition to being durable, they also have to be efficient, easy to use and standard-compliant – and all in verifiable quality. Flushing systems, for example, are subjected to long-term tests on a regular basis. Flush, refill, flush, refill – and this at least 200,000 times. This enables us to simulate up to 50 years of product use in three months.
Versatile testing laboratory
Our sanitary technology laboratory, which is some 800 square metres in size, serves as a testing area. It includes a flushing laboratory, endurance testing laboratory, temperature cycle laboratory, waste water laboratory, foul water laboratory and supply laboratory. It also features a drainage tower – a 24-metre-high structure that corresponds to around eight storeys – at which virtually any construction situation can be reconstructed in a pipe duct. Here, we can simulate peak loads, test different inner geometries or record flow behaviour with high-speed cameras and then analyse them on the computer.
Accredited test laboratory
Since February 2012, Geberit International AG has had an independent STS testing laboratory for piping and sanitary systems accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025.
This accreditation represents formal international recognition of the technical and organisational competence of the test laboratory to perform the services described in the accreditation’s scope of application.
The accreditation was granted by the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) – a division of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) – and is monitored periodically in accordance with the Swiss Accreditation and Designation Ordinance (AccDO), the ISO/IEC 17011 standard and EA/ILAC guidelines.
