Children learn hygiene

Cooperation with primary school in Machelen (BE)

Children in Belgian schools are avoiding going to the toilet because of outdated sanitary facilities. This can have health consequences. Geberit is therefore committed to improving school toilets - an example from the small town of Machelen.

Many schools in Belgium are more than 100 years old. This is also noticeable in the sanitary facilities. A study shows that 70 per cent of pupils avoid the toilets. This behaviour can lead to urinary tract infections, digestive problems, poor concentration and social disorders.

Commitment to schools

The Geberit sales company in Belgium is therefore committed to improving sanitary facilities in Belgian schools. Part of this is the cooperation with the GO! De Sterrenhemel primary school in Machelen. With the Bambini range, Geberit helps raising hygiene awareness in the kindergarten bathroom.

Véronique Langlois, CSR Manager at Geberit in Belgium, says: “Pleasant sanitary facilities tailored to children are a great need for schoolchildren, but are unfortunately often neglected.“ The recently revised and improved Geberit Bambini collection shows how child-friendly and hygienic sanitary facilities can become the standard in schools

Promoting hygiene through play

The school in Machelen is part of Scholengroep SCOOP. David Peirsman from SCOOP says: “We made a conscious decision to prioritise the sanitary facilities in our schools.“ Refurbishing them involves much more than just new interior fittings and replacing pipework.
“Toilets of different heights and colourful flush buttons encourage children to use the toilet independently in a playful way. And the washbasins with three levels and taps in the shape of figures motivates children to wash their hands.“ This promotes hygiene. David Peirsman appreciated the collaboration with Geberit: “Many scientific findings could be put into practice with this cooperation.“
