Arter Quarter, Tallinn (EE)
The Arter Quarter office and residential building is changing urban development in Tallinn for the long term. It is equipped with Geberit waste water solutions and is BREEAM Excellent certified.
The Arter Quarter in Tallinn places people and the environment at the centre of attention in equal measure. With its striking high-rise buildings – 28, 15 and 9 storeys high – and a central connecting building including an underground car park, Estonian architect Martin Aunin has created a new meeting place in the centre of the Estonian capital. A city park, modern flats, office space as well as catering and service areas are combined at this location.
High standards fulfilled
The building is virtually energy self-sufficient. Geothermal piles are used as load-bearing construction elements to achieve a zero-energy balance. ‘For us, it's a given to build sustainably according to the most modern standards,’ says Allar Õunapuu, project manager at construction company Merko. The building and its construction materials are not only functional, but also meet high ecological and social standards.
Innovative wastewater solutions such as Geberit Sovent fittings and Silent-db20 pipes maximise space and ensure soundproof and hydraulically optimised drainage. ‘In the shower area, we have a floor depth of just twelve centimetres,’ reports Allar Õunapuu. ‘Only Geberit Setaplano shower surfaces are suitable for this installation height.’
Awarded with label
The high-rise project has been awarded the BREEAM Excellent certificate, the second-highest rating from the British Building Research Establishment – and shows how development can be driven forward in urban areas with high demands. ‘It is crucial for the construction industry to use the available space wisely and to build as sustainably as possible,’ emphasises Allar Õunapuu. This creates liveable urban areas with a promising future.
